Brooks’ recent growth isn’t simply a byproduct of opportunity. It’s an intentional strategy by a team committed to making running a more informed participation in community and a thoughtful understanding of eco-consciousness. One of the facets at Sneaker Impact that we like to see is their decision to source materials to build better running shoes.
Sourcing recycled materials
One of the ways we reduce our company’s carbon footprint is by sourcing recycled materials made from post-consumer waste products, like single-use plastic water bottles. Our goal is for all materials used in Brooks products to be made of a minimum of 50% recycled or bio-based content by 2030.
While utilizing recycled water bottles is a great option for all brands, Sneaker Impact would also like to open our warehouse to the sourcing team at Brooks and any brand looking to source recycled materials. As we continue to learn about sustainability in the process of EXLOS (Extending the Life of Sneakers) to empower developing economies, we realize not every pair of shoes we collect can make it into these underserved communities. Those lower graded sneakers could serve as insole, midsole and outsole materials. The fibers in the uppers of shoes that don’t pass the Sneaker Impact inspection can also be utilized in the construction of new footwear. We feel that we have enough alternative materials to assist brands in conquering their journey towards net zero.
